Membership Benefits and Costs

gardenWe have around 700 members both flying and social. Joining and being a member of what we consider to be the best flying club in the country is a privilege and a pleasure you’ll never regret.

loungeMembership brings you access to the best facilities you’ll find anywhere, the clubhouse, restaurant, a function/conference room available to hire and a varied fleet of aircraft and you’ll have to go a very long way to beat our airfield facilities. We have 3 grass runways and a lighted tarmac runway, 4 hangars that contain the club’s fleet of 14 aircraft and 50 plus private group and individual owned aircraft.

We have a strong student community that is serviced by great classrooms and a team of fully qualified instructors that we can call upon for virtually all private pilot needs, including exams. All looked after by our Chief Flying Instructor who is on staff.

Many of our students, through the on site professional pilot school (AFT) go on to become commercial pilots flying the big stuff; they may even be flying you on your next holiday. Most continue to be members of Sherburn; they can pass on some great tips to help you on your way to qualification as a pilot.

johns panelThe club has it's very own fully functional flight simulator that is available to all members. You can practice your skills and rehearse tuition flights and gain experience with or with an instructor for a serious learning experience, without the full cost of hiring an aeroplane. Currently the sim is charged out at £15 per Hobbs hour. (Yes it even has an Hobbs meter)

There is a very active flight simulator group among our members, both flyers and non flyers who meet monthly to share knowledge and a common interest etc. Many non flying Flighht Sim enthusiasts end up becoming real world pilots.

We have many activities and events happening throughout the year, both indoors and on the field, these are either free to members or at minimal cost, have a look on the Events Diary pages to see what’s coming up soon.

We have a touring section that organises trips around the UK and the near continent as well as the progressive ‘Away days’ programme.

Social members can fly as passengers though they do not have voting rights.

fleetFlying members have access to 14 aircraft to hire as they wish, membership covers insurance of the aircraft and the hire charges include fuel and all other associated charges. And of course a shareholding in the club and it’s assets for Full members.

There aren’t many clubs that can offer you everything from Trial flight to Commercial Pilot.

The cost of membership is very modest and is listed below:

Full Flying Membership costs just £153 per year and Social Members pay just £10.

Fill out an application form at the flightdesk, Mark and his team will advise and help you all the way. They will also put you in touch with an instructor and other students/members and even arrange a tour of the airfield for you.

Please note that there is a joining fee payable when you first join (Flying members only) Discounted for new students.

Who Said What?

I was always afraid of dying. Always. It was my fear that made me learn everything I could about my airplane and my emergency equipment, and kept me flying respectful of my machine and always alert in the cockpit.
