Charity Open Day Help for Heroes - 4th September

Sherburn Aero Club & 2434 Squadron (Church Fenton) Air Cadets are holding a joint Open Day in aid of the Help for Heroes charity. See below for the most recent list of attractions at this unique event.

The day is open to the public from 10am.

We have changed the arrangements for the day. Please read the information below.

H4Hlogo_blackHelp for Heroes is a registered charity which provides care and support for wounded service men and women of all the forces. Help for Heroes raises money through events, donations, the support of the media, personalities, and serving military staff. It uses this money to provide emergency and long term assistance under the guidance of key figures from all the armed forces.

2434 Squadron Air Cadets held a successful charity day at Church Fenton last year on behalf of Help for Heroes which raised over £3000.  Our aim this year is to double this target and then some.   

The day now includes:

 

  • Fly past by a Spitfire of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at 3pm
  • Parachute display - now sadly cancelled
  • Hot air balloonsaircadetslogoweb
  • RAF and Army Aircraft
  • Vintage and Historic Aircraft
  • Many visiting aeroplanes
  • Veteran & Vintage vehicles, motorcycles and military vehicles
  • Sports cars and motorcycles
  • Police, RAF Search & Rescue and Air Ambulance helicopters
  • Air experiance flights
  • Flight Simulators and aircraft cockpits
  • Scale model display and open entry competition ( see below if you wish to bring along a model )
  • Radio controlled model static display
  • Services Careers
  • Childrens rides, bouncy castle and entertainment
  • Climbing wall
  • Army Assult Course
  • Craft Stalls
  • Tadcaster Fire Engine

 

 Entry costs just £5 for an adult or £10 for a car load of visitors.  

 

a) Information for visiting and Sherburn pilots   There has been a change to the proceedures ( 30th August) .  An updated visiting pilots guide is available here. Please do read it before arriving. PPR so contact the flightdesk for PPR.·Visiting & Sherburn pilots please note that runways 29/11 and 06/24 will now be available. Runway 01/19 remains closed as the aircraft parking areas.

Please read the NOTAMS before flying or booking aircraft.· The airfield will be open normally but will be closed for the BBMF Spitfire between 1505 local (1405 GMT) and 1540 local (1440 GMT).

b) Information for vintage and veteran, military and other vehicle owners wishing to display.   If owners of vintage & veteran·vehicles ( cars, commercial, motorbikes, military)·could please pre·- register their interest by using the following forms.·

c) Information for entry to the open model competition.   Anyone can enter the open model competition. You will find the display tables in the Hanger.· There are 3 classes of competition.· Under 13, Under 18 and Adult.· All you need to do is to provide a label describing your model with your age and a means of contacting you.· Hand this to the staff at the table. Certificates will be awarded to the best in each class and will be judged by some of the best model makers in the country.

Sherburn Aero Club & the Air Cadets cannot be held responsible for the safety of your model but the display will be protected by barriers and staffed all day.
